Description: Item 0707, Brooklyn, NY Quay St. shipyard, ship “New England”, c. 1934, being extended in length. Photo news poster from “The News - New York’s Picture Newspaper”. Excellent condition w/ very minor 1/2” corner bend lower right. 11” x 16 1/2” The text references, “Capacity will be increased 2,900 barrels.” If this is an oil tanker, this image is interesting as a back window view into the history of oil use in the United States. This image is related to the very driving forces in our oil culture today relating to its transportation, the Green Movement, and the Post-Oil Movement. This ship’s modifications in the mid-1930’s helped bring us to where we are today in oil use and our Middle-East interests. “The News” was a member of the NRA and is marked on the poster. All items original to period - No reproductions sold in my store. When item is shipped, it will be refolded, at no harm to the piece, along its original fold-lines.
