The patina is created from the minerals in the soil and dirt on our property In combination with the natural oils and marrow inside of the bone. These bones have not been sterilized or placed in peroxide, however they have been rinsed off and dried * these are real bone. Each bone is slightly different and unique some cracking and leaching may occur overtime and during the drying process. Cracking and leaching is natural. certain conditions for storage and climate play role in the severity and frequency of these occurrences. *Please note Here at Chasing Tail we do not consider these leg bones to be fully degreased. Further whitening and/or degreasing may be done at buyers discretion. We personally believe that pulling all natural oils from the bone leaves the bone more susceptible to cracking and brittle conditions, even when properly processed especially in dry environments.
