Considered one of the finest, most popular strains of pipe and cigarette tobacco, it produces large, broad leaves that are 14-18 inches wide and 24-30 inches long. Tobacco Germination Guide Select the soil and container in which to start your seeds. For soil, use a seed starting mix for the best results. You may also use a soil-less potting mix, which is cheaper and widely available at most garden centers. For the container, use seed trays or small pots around three or four inches tall. Fill your pots or seed trays with potting mix to within 1/2 inch of the top. Thoroughly soak the soil with water and allow the excess water drain off before planting. Place 2-3 seeds per seed tray cell or pot on top of the soil. Tobacco seeds require light for germination, so do not cover them with soil.
