Description: Presented is a fabulous set of 12 antique French sterling silver place spoons, dessert spoons or oval soup spoons made by Massat Freres. The spoons are wrought in French first standard 950 purity silver, a slightly higher silver purity than sterling silver. The handles are decorated with an elegant combination of machine turnings and engravings with an open raised cartouche on the reverse that has never been monogrammed. Each spoon is stamped on the bowl with the Mercury hallmark for French first standard 950 purity silver and a maker’s mark for Massat Freres. These spoons were probably made in the last quarter of the 1800s, almost certainly more than 100 years old. The condition is excellent. There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The spoons are 6 7/8 inches long. The weight is 435.7 grams or 15.3 ounces.
