On May 1, 1997, the U.S. Postal Service issued these World of Dinosaurs gummed 32¢ stamps in Grand Junction, CO with a First Day Ceremony at the Museum of Western Colorado's Dinosaur Valley Museum. Grand Junction is known as the "Dinosaur Triangle" of western Colorado and northeastern Utah, as many dinosaur fossils have been found in the area over the years. A second-day ceremony was held on May 2nd at the Berger Dinosaur Hall of the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, MT. The artwork for these stamps is by James Gurney of Rhinebeck, NY (best known as the author and illustrator of the Dinotopia books). Gurney arranged the dinosaurs into two panoramic paintings: with 8 stamps representing a scene in Colorado from the Jurassic Period (150 million years ago), and 7 stamps representing a scene in Montana from the the Cretaceous Period (75 milliion years ago). The 15 different dinosaurs on this sheet include the: Ceratosaurus, Camptosaurus, Camarasaurus, Brachiosaurus, Goniopholis, Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Opisthias, Edmontonia, Einiosaurus, Daspletosaurus, Palaeosaniwa, Corythosaurus, Ornithomimus, and Parasaurolophus.
