Description: De Controversiis Christianae Fidei, Adversus Huius Temporis Haereticos. Operum Roberti Bellarmini [Bellarmino, Bellarmine]. Coloniae Agrippinae [Köln]: Bernard Gualther 1620 [Vol. 2 title page dated 1619]. [21], 916, [12]; [6], 924, [14]. Engraved title page. Volumes 1 and 2 (bound together) of Bellarmino's seven-volume Works, being the first half of "De Controversiis" which occupied Vols. 1-4 of the works. Some pieces of old manuscript have been used in the vellum binding. Lacking half-title. Ex library (only marking to textblock is a stamp to title page and a few pencil catalogue marks). Much of spine lost, the remainder chipped, soiled and detaching. Covers have wear, chipping, bumping, bowing, soiling. There are three tears in the text, each resulting in the loss of a few letters. One leaf is completely detached, but is present and laid in. Pages have yellowing, sporadic foxing, some small edge tears, creases, a few rust-spots and small stains. There is some very minor top-margin dampstain for a period - faint and only at the very edge, not approaching the text. A couple of pages have numbering in ink in an old hand. There is an old signature, I think Otto Friedrich von Buchwald.
