Description: George B. Soley was an employee of the US Mint who purchased a retired steam press from the Mint and began striking his own medals. Many of them are 13mm in diameter, struck in gilt bronze, and most feature the Lord's Prayer on the reverse. The medal for sale here, is very similar to the medals struck by Soley, but I cannot confirm that it was in fact struck by him and might even say it was unlikely. However, this medal can be collected right along side those produced by Soley, because of their similarities. The example here, also was likely put into a bronze encasement and sold that way. Since that time, it has been popped out of the encasement and survives un-holed. Medals that were not put into encasements were many times sold as charms and hung from a stick pin or a ribbon, and those medals have holes in them for suspension. 13mm in diameter.Gilt Bronze.
