Description: Very fine Richard Earlom mezzotint engraving, published January 1, 1776, by John Boydell Engraver in Cheapside. Master English engraver Richard Earlom (1743-1822) executed the prints, which were originally included in the Liber Veritas (Book of Truth), Claude Lorrain's book of drawings recording his complete paintings, a book owned by the Duke of Devonshire from the 1720's until 1957, and now in the British Museum. It was reproduced in print from 1774 to 1777 by Richard Earlom and had a considerable influence on British landscape art. This engraving is No. 134, a sublime depiction of a pastoral European landscape. The plate imprint is 10.25" by 8.25" and comes masterfully framed - double matted, under glass, and in a dark brown wood frame with an inset gilt vine border, total dimensions 19.75" by 18". Rare and exquisite engraving in superb condition, free of foxing or stains or fading. Frame with some scattered scratches and a chip to the lower left corner. A pair of Earlom Devonshire mezzotints recently sold on eBay for $400 - my price for one (nicer than either of the pair) is comparable. Buyer to pay for item plus shipping. Two shipping options are available, USPS and UPS - eBay will compute rates for each based on your location. Select whichever presents the cheaper option for you.
