First published in 1748, it tells the tragic tale of a Clarissa Harlowe, a virtuous young woman who becomes the victim of her family's manipulations and the cruel seduction of a wealthy rake, resulting in her ultimate downfall.Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece to each volume.The second work present is the 1796 seven volume eighth edition of 'The History of Sir Charles Grandison', first published in 1753. The tail of 'Grandison' vol I, V and VI front joints, and head of volume III rear joints starting, with boards holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
