Description: This is an original still life painting from the 17th or 18th century, painted with oil on canvas, signed "IB" in the lower right, and with a lacquered surface. It's in an antique gilded, gesso frame. Measurements: CANVAS: 10" x 14" FRAME: 13" X 17" The work forms an allegory on the cycles of life: The nest of birds' eggs implies birth, and the blossoms-- vigorous and the top and beginning to wilt at the bottom, represent maturity. The flowers depicted would not have bloomed at the same time in nature and could be seen as reminders of the brevity of life. Please examine photos to see that there is some paint loss, especially at the edges of the canvas, and there have been a few small repairs -- little paint touch-ups of paint losses within the painting, and a front and back repair to a small tear in the center of the canvas. Also, the frame has some paint touch-ups, such as pointed out with a white arrow in one photo. Ships well packed and insured.
