Description: Here is a great old merchant token made of copper, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 3/16" across, with a plain edge. This gorgeous early British piece shows just light wear, and I have not cleaned or altered its appearance in any manner, with four of the pictures having been "enhanced" for clarity, the darker images a bit more indicative of the token's color. The token is identified in the D&H token reference as Middlesex 458, and it is an exceptionally fine example. The obverse pictures a wild-looking Sri Lankan monkey facing the viewer and holding a stick, with "The Wan - derow" at its sides, the date "1801" below. "Pidcock" is at the top, with "Grand Menagerie Exeter Change London" around. The reverse features an large standing bird facing right, with "The African Crown Crane" above and "Pidcock Exhibition" at the bottom. Excellent. $320.
