Description: A very handsome seven-volume set of Milton's prose works, the last volume containing the Life of John Milton by Charles Symmons. Uniformly bound in full panelled calf with central lozenge, decorative gilt borders, and blind-stamped detailing to boards. Spines with elaborate gilt tooling, gilt lettering on red morocco labels. All edges marbled, ink smudge to top edge of Vols 2, 3, & 6, and to top and bottom edge of Vol. 7 with small to lower edge (see images). Externally, volumes show some surface marks, rubbing to joints and wear to extremities, small loss to ends of spines and joints. Cracking to some joints, mainly at foot of upper joint of v1, and to upper joint of v6, the latter with some movement to board though holding well. Marbled endpapers. Text-blocks remain sound and firm, pages lightly age-toned with some light foxing in places and scattered minor blemishes, otherwise very clean. Please view images carefully to confirm condition.
