Description: Antique Albrecht Durer print from Berlin's printmaker E. Dettmers, utilized by General John Watts De Peyster (1821-1907) as reference to erect the Methodist church located on 73 Broadway, Tivoli, New York. This is an excellent example of how Durer manuscripts were used as engineering reference to build New York's monumental churches by end of the 1800's, inscribed in German language "Old City Fortress with Circular Walls and Towers" "Redesign of The Old Fortress to the New One by Albrecht Durer, 1527," printed in Berlin (c.1820), and mounted in a giltwood frame. The label on the opposite side reads: "Old City Fortress With Circular Walls & Towers" "Redesign Of The Old Fortress To The New One By Albrecht Durer, 1527” From a folio formerly in the library of General John Watts DePeyster, 1839-1907. The General was the great-grand son of Abraham DePeyster, 1658-1726, colonial era merchant and jurist and first Burgemeester of New Amsterdam.
