Beautiful half leather binding, with gilt decorated spine, and engraved frontispiece, two further engraved plates, a separately paginated ‘Author’s Petition’ (16pp) and four leaves of terminal advertisements. This work includes an extensive list nautical terminology explained in an 18 page dictionary (pp 163-180). Henry Barnet Gascoigne, sometime Lieut. Royal Marines who was invalided on Active Service and placed on Half-Pay in 1808, composed several slight works of a naval nature as well as others on poverty, many of which are included in the 7pp list of advertisements to the end of this title. A scarce work, no copies of the first edition appear on Worldcat and JISC, and this second edition is rare; COPAC locates only three libraries with copies (under the full title, six libraries with the title “G’s Path to Naval Fame”. x, 180, 16, 7, [1]pp. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall.
