1856, After Dark by Wilkie Collins, HB Bernhard Tachnitz, "Copyright Edition", G

Description: "After Dark" by Wilkie Collins is a collection of six interconnected short stories presented as a series of tales told by a traveling portrait painter, William Kerby, to his wife Leah, who records them in her diary; the narrative framework details how Kerby's temporary blindness forces him to rely on storytelling as a means of income, with each story drawn from the lives of people he encountered while painting their portraits, creating a tapestry of diverse and often dramatic experiences. (Google AI)" This copy was published in 1856 by Leipzig : Bernhard Tachnitz. It was purchased from the estate of Warren Robbins (September 4, 1923 – December 4, 2008), who was an American art collector, whose collection of African art led to the formation of the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian Institution. He wrote his name, where he lived (Harrisburg at the time) and date (Feb 1950) behind the front board. I have described the condition as Good, with the main wear issue being that the first free endpaper is not present - the bottom left corner remains in the binding. The first leaf in the book is the title page. The back blank endpaper is present. Half leather, looks to be post publication, with the title on the spine. Marble boards with light to moderate corner and edge wear. No interior marks, 377 clean and solidly bound pages. B115
