1871 Shallow N Indian Cent S-4, ANACS AU-55 (Corrosion), Rare Variety! [DZD]

Description: This is the very scarce Shallow N variety of the already-rare 1871 cent. Exhibits corrosion on the reverse. Despite the details grade, this is a great rare date and variety, still undervalued in the rare coin market. For readers of Richard Snow's Attribution Guide for Indian Cents, this is a very scarce subvariety of the rare 1871 Shallow N: The Snow-4. This is a very, very difficult coin with just a handful in existence. Some of the pickup points of the S-4 (and as seen with this coin) include a slight die rotation as well as the die crack from the left point of the shield to the wreath, at about 11:00 on the reverse. Note that ANACS practices net grading and punishes the grade down to a AU 55 to account for the corrosion. So in fact the level of detail is very good on this coin, characteristic of a high AU grade.
