Description: This listing is for an early book printing of "A Visit From St. Nicholas," dated 1875, 1st edition. A very large book, it is a comprehensive anthology of Christmas lyrics and stories popular at the time, complimented by wonderful illustrations. It is the first time that both "A Visit from St. Nicholas" and "A Christmas Carol" appear together in one book. "A Visit From St. Nicholas" is accompanied by an illustration of St. Nick, by Thomas Nast, one of his earliest; while "A Christmas Carol" has two illustrations by John Leech. The book measuring approximately 9 x 11.5 inches with 385 pages. Hard cover construction is green cloth over boards with gilt cover designs and page edging. At 149 years old, the book is in good condition overall. Covers show wear, mostly to the spine tips, but still very presentable. The pages are clean with light foxing on a few pages. Binding is tight. An attractive bookplate and owner's name (presumably the first) are present up front. "A Visit from St. Nicholas" appears on pages 25-28 and "A Christmas Carol" appears on pages on pages 177-308. On consignment from a lifelong Christmas collector. Thanks for looking!
