Description: This is a nice, original printing of Report of the Superintendent of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, Showing the Progress of the Work During the Fiscal Year Ending with June, 1878. Published by The Government Printing Office, Washington (1881). Brown boards with embossed border and embossed lettering on spine. Foreword is letter from the Secretary of the Treasury, John Sherman. Measures 9.5" x 12" and contains 214 pages of text and illustrations, an index and 32 folding maps/plates. There is some rubbing wear and discoloration to edges and surfaces of covers. Interior pages good, some chipping to page edges. text sharp and clean. The folding maps are fragile but in remarkable shape for their age. This has been little used and opened in my opinion. At least one map has a tear and most have a few tiny separations at folds. Please study photos carefully and Email with any question. A great addition to any collection! From the private collection of Richard S. and Patricia N. Barnes Evanston, Illinois.
