Description: Frederick William Stillwell was born in Scranton, PA in 1865. He enlisted in 13th Pennsylvania Infantry in 1889. He received his commission, was a Major during the Spanish-American War, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel during that conflict. At the start of World War I he was assigned to command Pennsylvania’s 55th Brigade, 28th Division. Stillwell did not pass his physical before the 28th Division departed for France, and he returned to Scranton and retired from the military in January 1918. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Bound in green pebbled boards with gilt detail on spine. Inscription on pasted front endpaper. Foreword is also signed by Frederick. Light toning.
