Description: 1888 Dr C McLane’s Celebrated Liver Pills from Fleming Brothers Trade Card Original antique trade card – from the manufacturer Fleming Brothers, Pittsburgh circa 1888 Features a Victorian woman sitting at a piano with a small child in her arms . . . the back side shows oriental coolies carrying a woman with a child in her lap From the web: Dr. McLane came up with the "celebrated liver pills" which supposedly cured sick headache, billiousness, torpid liver, dyspepsia, malaria constiveness, impure blood, poor appetite, and nervousness. He made these pills as early as 1834. . . The Fleming Brothers were the next ones in when they began preparing the pills in Pittsburg. Looks like there was a lot of controversy and a long history as to who could claim and use the words Dr. Mc Lane . . . much more on the web about this, I will not take time to show it here . . . Even on this trade card you will note that at the bottom are the words: “Counterfeits are made in St. Louis, Mo., and Wheeling, W.Va. “Insist on having the genuine Dr. C. McLane’s Celebrated Liver Pills made by Fleming Bros., Pittsburgh, Pa.” 4” x 6” 2 sided Condition: Good condition – no writing – looks like this used to be in a keepsake album – some surface impact of that on the backside Look at my feedback and bid with confidence! ~ I combine shipping ~ Thanks for looking! 9422 Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
