1888 Victorian Horse Racing Cup Trophy Carnoustie Races W. Whitton Owner Plate

Description: Here we have a true survivor. A Victorian era Horse Racing Trophy Dated 1888. It’s does have “Carnoustie Races Aug 1888 -Won By- Mattie Property of W. Whitton” engraved on one side. The trophy features lots of decorative engraving all over the cup. Sadly it has been over polished over it’s 136 year old history. Much of the silver plate has worn away revealing the copper base metal below. There are a couple of smaller dents, nothing too bad, basically the kind of wear consistent with a piece of this age. I have been unable to find any makers markings, or plate markings at all. It stands 8 ½ inches tall. As I mentioned this is a survivor, it made it through two World War scrap metal drives when copper was in high demand. I love the look of this piece It is a look that can only come from someone loving and polishing a prized item over the years (even if it was a little to much polishing lol) Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship Monday Mornings.
