Description: HISTORICAL FINE ART SERIES THE MAGIC CITY A Massive Portfolio of Original Photographic Views of the Great World's Fair and its Treasures of Art, Including a Vivid Representation of the Famous Midway Plaisance: with Graphic Descriptions by America's Brilliant Historical and Descriptive Writer J. W. Buel A PHOTOGRAPHIC AND HISTORICAL REPRESENTATION OF THE 'MAGIC CITY" BY-THE-LAKE, WITH ITS VAST TREASURES OF THE WORLD OF ART Reproduced in Splendid Realism, as it was seen by millions of visitors, In a Series of 300 Magnificent Photographic Views 1894 Historical Publishing Company St. Louis, MO. ~ Philadelphia, PA. Half-bound Leather* unpaginated A fascinating pictorial book about the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair & Columbian Exposition marking 400th anniversary of Columbus discovery of America. This World's Fair was so popular (and commercial)_ that it spawned numerous books and publications about it, but this version of "The Magic City" is the one with the most pictorial content, much of which you will not see in other books about it. While many of those other pictorial Chicago World's Fair books show much of the exhibition buildings interior and exterior, as well as the midway, they tend to skimp out on the indigenous people on display, but not so in this book. No listing on eBay with their picture limitations can do this book justice. We tried to show a variety of views/scenes, and of course, we had to show the Ferris Wheel, the first time ever this amusement park ride had ever been in operation. As for condition, this book does have a number of flaws. *Both covers are separated/detached and it could use a rebind. The first and last blank endpapers, and also the title page are separated from the textblock. Otherwise the textblock is stable. There are 7 closed page tears (varying in length, mostly small, and mostly near the spine) and one larger, jagged open page tear (see sample photos with moose statue) at bottom. Also, occasional smudges from perusal wear. In spite of this book's condition, it still has good historical and collectible value and has been priced according to its condition. 13.5" x 11.5" x 1"
