Ink inscription to the front free end paper, dated 1899. Illustrated with a frontispiece, a folding map, and fifty-three further illustrations. Collated, complete. Edward Frederick Knight (1852-1925) was an English barrister, soldier, and writer. He wrote many works of fiction, often based on his dispatches as a war correspondent. This travel memoir records Knight's trips to Kashmir and the Himalayas. He started his journey in Ladakh. Once he reached Gilgit, he joined the British forces, led by Colonel Algernon Durand, in a military campaign. He also served as a correspondent for The Times during this time. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with very light shelf wear to the joints. Slightly faded to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the occasional spot to the first couple of pages. Page 455 is detached but intact.
