Description: Birds of Eastern North America, Frank M. Chapman, D. Appleton & Co., New York , 1912. Revised edition from 1895. Includes a full color map of NA and keys and diagrams of avian anatomy. Many B&W illustrations and some color plates of birds. Sadly there are some illustrations of birds now extinct like Bachmans Warbler and the Ivory Billed Woodpecker. He describes the Ivory billed woodpecker "the home of this magnificent Woodpecker is in the almost limitless cypress forests of our southern coasts and river valleys". Alas no longer. How many other songbirds, insects, fish and other animals will we lose if we dont take steps to limit climate change and habitat loss? Chapman was a great pioneer of birding and ornithology and wrote several field guides, I believe the first ones. He was appointed curator of Mammals and birds at the Museum of Natural History in NY in 1908, and he developed the Audubon Christmas Bird count. He wrote quite a few books about birds and made great contributions to the field of study. Volume is in good condition, no DJ. light corner wear to blue cloth covered boards. The binding is cracked at the first page and front cover. there are library numbers on the reverse of the title page and residue of a pasted sticker or sleeve opposite the title page. No other stamping or numbers written. An owners signature on the 2nd page. 3 letters in ink on the bottom of the text block. Buyer pays cost of Media Mail. International buyers welcome.
