Description: About the product: Dr. Caldwell's (W. B. Caldwell, William Burr Caldwell) pepsin syrup was first produced around 1888, it was a laxative made from the leaves of the cassia senna plant. The National Museum of American History website has the ingredients listed as: alcohol, 4.5%; pepsin, 4 gr. per ounce; senna; cassia; cascara sagrada; peppermint; aromatics About the bottle: 16 oz., 9 inches tall and 3 inches by 1 3/4 inches at the base. Aqua Blue glass. Embossed on the front panel vertically in two lines: DR. W. B. CALDWELL'S / MONTICELLO, ILLINOIS. The base is lightly marked with an 'I' in a diamond in the center (the trade mark logo for the Illinois Glass Co. used between 1915 and 1929) with the number 7 (mold number) beneath the logo. Machine made cork or stopper top bottle. Condition: A nice bottle, no cracks or chips, a couple of minor hazed areas on the glass.
