Description: 1917 Press Photo Troop transport leave American port in World War I - sax30474 This is an original press photo. "Goodbye, Broadway, Hello France," the Americans sang -- and the doughboys went off to war gaily, but secretly, in World War I. Here they wave from a troop transport loaded to capacity just before leaving an American port. By June, 1917, two months after the U.S. declared war on Germany, the first troops were on their way. Two million went before the war ended November 11, 1918. Of these, 107,284 were killed, 191,000 wounded and 4,912 declared missing. Total deaths in the war were estimated as high as 13 million.Photo measures 7 x 9.25inches. Photo is dated 06--1917.
