1926 Press Photo Woman Explorer Natalie Rogers Holds Animals from South America

Description: 1926 Vintage Press Photo by INTERNATIONAL NEWS.New York.Miss Natalie Rogers, a famous woman explorer, has recently returned from a hazardous trip up the Beni River, in Bolivia. She is the first white woman to traverse the wild jungles of the Beni Valley. Miss Rogers was accompanied by her husband, and a college friend on the five months trip. She went from New York to the west coast of South America. She crossed the Andes Mountains by mule pack, one of the most difficult modes of travel, to the Beni River, where the party built rafts and continued their explorations up the river. While on the journey, Miss Rogers met and traded with friendly natives, in exchange for American novelties and trinkets, Miss Rogers obtained Indian spears, bows, arrows, and many other articles of great intrinsic value. Although unmolested by the natives of the country through which she traveled, Miss Rogers received many insect bites, once being stricken with Malaria. Photo is Dated: June 8, 1926.
