Description: Canadian Pacific - A very large (34" by 46") fold-out cruise deck plan with interior photos from the 1930s for the EMPRESS OF AUSTRALIA. This former German liner was used frequently for long, leisurely cruises. Seven decks are shown in color-coded detail. Also, a replacement sheet for A Deck has been glued on. You can easily peek underneath to see that several regular cabins had been upgraded with private baths, among other changes. Black and white interior photos show First Class space: Smoking Room, Sitting Room of a suite, Pompeiian Pool, Main Lounge, Dining Saloon, Sun Room of a suite, Drawing Room, Ballroom, Promenade Deck, and three different cabins. The ship was launched in late 1913 as Hapag's ADMIRAL VON TIRPITZ but war delayed completion. Afterwards she was handed over to Great Britain and rebuild into the EMPRESS OF AUSTRALIA. She is most famous for surviving the great Tokyo earthquake in 1923 and helping in rescue efforts afterwards, an event witnessed by my great-uncle who was traveling the world in the 1920s version of a gap year. The liner survived WW2 as a troopship and was scrapped in 1952. Very good condition with light wear.
