Photographed at Chattanooga TN in 1938 by the documentary photographer Charles Medin. Built in 1855, the No. 3 General provided freight and passenger service between Atlanta and Chattanooga, before the Civil War, on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. In 1901, the General was placed on display in the Chattanooga Union Depot. There, it remained on display for nearly fifty years.Charles Medin was artist/photographer and then assistant editor of the Illinois Central Magazine, circa 1900s to 1949.
