Description: Up for sale is an incredibly rare plate changeover pair of $1 1935-A / 1935-B silver certificates. While a typical changeover pair consists of consecutive serial numbers featuring two different signatures or dates, this is a unique scenario. These two different series notes were printed from the exact same printing plate. In modern notes, the BEP typically starts over with plate #1 with every change of series / signature. So while different series may have the same plate numbers, they started over the numbering and the plates would not be the same one. However, on older notes, they used continuous numbering between series, and they did not like to scrap serviceable plates when a date or signature needed changing. They would abrade off the old signature and re-engrave a new signature. That is what happened here. This plate #5851 was one of the last remaining 1935-A plates in service, and the BEP modified it to 1935-B and continued using it to print Vinson notes. There is a small overlap in plate numbers where this changeover took place and only a few plates were modified. This is the first and only changeover pair I have been able to find with one note printed from each series by the same plate. What makes this even more special is that the 1935-A note is from the incredibly scarce *B block, the last of the 1935-A star notes. These alone are at least 30x rarer than their *A counterparts. After this plate printed the last run of 1935-A notes, it was changed to 1935-B and printed the second note offered here. This is an early serial for a 1935-B note, as production began right around the beginning of the D-D block, showing that this plate was quickly changed over. Both notes are a gorgeous Uncirculated in my opinion. Crisp and clean and pack fresh with razor sharp corners and bold color. Please check scans and judge grade for yourself. Don't miss your chance to grab this truly unique, scarce set, who knows if any more are still in existence, and even if more surface someday, they will likely not be Uncirculated or contain the rare *B note. This note alone lists in the Schwartz/Lindquist book for $225 in CU and $350 in Gem CU without being part of this changeover pair. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
