Description: This is a Post Office envelope, franked as an FDC with vertical pairs of the SJ 1/2d, 1d and 6d stamps and a single 3d. The cover has its original contents, a letter stating which denominations of SJ stamps had been issued and that stamps to the value of the remittance were applied to the registered cover. Neil Donen has prepared a series of 3 articles about this kind of cover and the related stamp orders, which have appeared in Gibbons Stamp Monthly. The stamps are cancelled CAPETOWN 1 May 1935 which was the day of issue of the stamps The cover has been slit open at the top.
