Description: Important History of World War I, Set 2, 1914-1917Loyalties Mesopotamia, Vol 1 1914-1917 A Personal and Historical Record. and Loyalties Mesopotamia Vol 2 A Personal and Historical Record 1917-1920. Wilson, Sir Arnold T. London: Oxford University Press/Humphrey Milford, 1936. Many photographic illustrations and maps (four large folding maps in the back pocket of Vol 1 and two large folding maps at the back of Vol 2). Very good plus – pristine condition, including maps. Scarce in set. Sir Arnold Talbot Wilson (1884-1940) was a British soldier and colonial administrator in Mesopotamia (Iraq) during and after WW1. He had a long and important career in India and the Middle East. He was not a proponent of nationalism for Arab countries and thus was on the wrong side of the T.E. Lawrence crowd who favored independence. In the book Wilson speaks his mind about the failures and the successes of the campaigns in which he was engaged (both military and non-military) and with the problems of administration and settlement which he handled after the War was over. The narrative covers the hardships suffered by the men, the relationship of the army and the population, difficulties encountered by the troops and so on. Oxford University Press calls the books “…among the best serious contribution to the war History of 1914-1918. “
