Description: 1938 Gallaher Butterflies & Moths Card # 24 Death's Head Hawk (EX) These cards were issued by Gallaher Ltd in 1938 and feature the butterflies and moths that can be found in Britain. The set of 48 has an lovely colour illustrations of the creatures on the front and the informative backs tell us about their favourite habitat and food as well as describing them and their caterpillars. Included in the set are the Hummingbird Moth which is one of the few which fly during the day, the Painted Lady which is a beautiful summer visitor, the Common Blue, which as its name suggests is the commonest butterfly in the British Isles, the Cinnabar moth which likes open waste ground, the furry Puss Moth, the Orange Tip butterfly which first appears around the middle of May, the Fritillary whose caterpillar is black and spiny and the Death's Head Moth so named because it appears to have a 'skull-and-cross-bones' on its back.Excellent (EX): (5.0-5.5) Corners are still fairly sharp with only moderate wear. Card borders may be off center as much as 85/15. No creases. May have very minor gum, wax or product stains, front or back. Surfaces may show slight loss of luster from rubbing across other cards.
