Description: "POPEYE" HALLOWEEN MASQUERADE COSTUME - 1940s - 1950s Collegeville Costumes. 10.5" x 12" x 1.5" die-cut "pumpkin" window box. The 2-color box lid has nice holiday graphics. Box lid side is stamped "738 MEDUIM 8-10" with original Sears Roebuck price tag. This elaborate costume includes original face mask (fleshtone molded mesh canvas with hand-painted accents), 2 "muscle" forearm pieces (fleshtone mesh canvas with blue litho "anchor" on each), collared shirt & printed belt piece (red, blue & black fabric with white litho accents), and blue fabric pants. An outstanding early masquerade costume with nice eye appeal. Condition of MASK is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate surface creasing with minor edge tear/fraying. Original elastic cord is still intact (one side secured with small safety pin). Condition of MUSCLE FOREARMS are considered only FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. The pair are in fragile condition with scattered edge tear/fraying. There is extensive surface tearing on one forearm (approx. 7"). Both are still displayable. Condition of PANTS is considered FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Scattered surface/edge tears/fraying with minimal seam separation. Condition of SHIRT / BELT is considered POOR with misc. surface/stain/edge wear. Assorted tears, creases and chips with 90+% horizontal tearing at mid-section area. Fabric is very fragile, brittle & tattered but displayable (restoration is recommended). Condition of BOX is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate edge scuffing / creasing with scattered small edge tears (largest tear is approx. 3/8"). Glue loosened from three lid corners (no corner tears or splits). Original cellophane is still intact. Overall, despite noted defects, we feel this item is still a very displayable example by most standards (see photos). An uncommon addition for any POPEYE, MASQUERADE COSTUME and/or HALLOWEEN MEMORABILIA collection.
