Description: 1945 CHICAGO WHITE SOX vs ST. LOUIS PROGRAM + TICKET - PETE GRAY 1st A.L. ROAD SERIES! APRIL 20-22, 1945 WWII This official Chicago White Sox scorecard and program is a one-of-a-kind souvenir of one-armed Pete Gray's earliest days and road debut as a major league baseball player in a series played at Comiskey Park in Chicago from April 20-22, 1945. During this series, Pete appeared only in the April 22nd game, sitting out with an injury on April 20th. The fan who saved this program left it unscored in excellent condition with an official ticket stub from the event as well as news clips from the Chicago Times that include a photo of Gray in uniform at Comiskey Park as well as a 4/20/45 box score that shows an attendance of 3,649. Gray got his big chance with the reigning AL Champion St. Louis Browns after hitting .333 with 68 stolen bases for the Memphis Chicks on the way to being named Southern Association Most Valuable Player in 1944. With many big league regulars away on WWII military duty, Pete was called-up for Browns spring training at Cape Girardeau, MO, where he made the big club on his way to St. Louis for his MLB home debut against the future 1945 World Champion Detroit Tigers. The Browns won that opener behind a complete game by Sig Jackucki, as Pete Gray went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
