Chinese suicide troops defending the gateway to Kumhwa stopped cold an American attack backed by nine air strikes, a tank cannonade and a 10,000 round artillery barrage. The Reds held fast & threw counter attack in the battle which raged north of Chipe and 10 miles from Kumhwa, The only other major action was fought 55 miles to the wast where US forces captured a hill north of the Ewachon Reservoir after a 4 hour battle.
