When the Guardian Angel Catholic parish, founded in 1909 at the direction of the late Bishop John J. Hogan, began erection of its present church, illustrated here, in 1922, altars that had been used in a much older church were installed. The two side altars were the original altars of the old Sts. Peter and Paul church, formerly located at Ninth and McGee streets. A telecast of Pulpit Portraits at 5 o’clock tomorrow night on WDAF-TV will feature the Guardian Angel church and Msgr, Charles J . Strasburger, the pastor. Monsignor Strasburger the third pastor to serve the parish and recently celebrated his forty-third anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. Preceding him were the Rev. Karl Haeckler and the Rev. Peter P. Bosch. From its founding until 1922, the parish buildings were a combination church and school, convent and rectory, constructed soon after organization. In the present stone Gothic edifice, stained glass windows are full-size portraits depicting the life of Christ. The parish includes the area from State Line to Belleview avenue, Thirty-third Forty-eighth street. There are. 630 families in it. Photo measures 6.25 x 8.75 inches. Photo is dated 01-16-1951.
