Work on it has been going on for a number of years. Some essays were written earlier, others later, but basically the presentation was brought up to 1949. Recently, the artists whose autobiographies are included in the book have created new current works. During the same time, many young masters came to the fore and became laureates of the Stalin Prizes. Among them are such artists as V. M. Oreshnikov, S. I. Dudnik, Yu. P. Kugach, K. M. Maksimov, V. G. Tsyplakov, V. M. Mariupolsky, whose works represent a further step in the development of art socialist realism. The inclusion of their autobiographies would require more work and would delay publication of the book for a long time. Therefore, the editors considered it possible to release the book in its present form. The book includes autobiographies of the leading masters of Moscow and Leningrad. The next task is to create a collection that would include autobiographies of painters of the national republics of the USSR, without whose work a complete and integral idea of the fine arts of the multinational Soviet Union cannot be created. The publication of this collection seems to be timely and interesting not only for specialists, but also for a wide range of readers......... Editorial
