Description: 1960 MASTERS TOURNAMENT Load this disk into your DVD player, relax and enjoy a truly rare piece of golf history! You’ll be going back in time 60 years and re-living the excitement of the 1960 Masters Tournament at Augusta, Georgia, won by one of golf’s all-time greats and most popular players, Arnold Palmer! You’ll see the highlights of all four days of that memorable tournament, in which Palmer, playing at the height of his game, stormed from behind on the final day with birdies on 17 and 18 to win by one shot over runner-up Ken Venturi! This DVD will bring back memories of all those great golfers as they looked half a century ago: Palmer, Venturi, Horton Smith, Jimmy Demaret, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Cary Middlecoff, Julius Boros, Tommy Bolt, Doug Ford, Dow Finsterwald, Gary Player, Billy Casper and a husky young amateur playing in his first masters, Jack Nicklaus! Not only does this presentation bring you memorable golf action, but you’ll get a brief history of the course and see the grounds around the National as it looked in 1960, including the nearby cottages, club buildings and other course landmarks. The color cameras take you behind-the-scenes and inside the famous manor house which now serves as the main clubhouse at Augusta. You’ll get a peek at the trophy room and see the set of clubs founder and president Robert T. “Bob” Jones Jr. used in winning the ‘grand slam’ of golf. Included is a look at perhaps the most famous putter in golf history, “Calamity Jane”. 1960 was a year of firsts at the Masters. The now traditional Wednesday nine-hole par-three tournament was first held, and is won by Sam Snead. The newly built headquarters building made its debut, and for the first time ever, the tournament was filmed in COLOR! On the morning of the first round, Hogan, Fred Hawkins, Stan Leonard, Porky Oliver and Jerry Barber are shown warming up at the practice tees. You’re right there at the first tee as Horton Smith, Sarazen, Demaret, Ford, Snead, Middlecoff, Hogan, Deane Beman and Palmer all tee off on #1. Out on the course, other players, such as Bo Wininger, Mario Gonzales and Dr. Bud Taylor are also shown in action. Throughout the tournament, other golfers of the day are shown: Billy Maxwell, Dean Andrews, Harold Henning, Lionel Hebert, Dave Ragan, Mason Rudolph, Ted Kroll, Don January, Lew Worsham, Walter Berkemo, Mike Souchak and Billy Joe Patton. Action is shown from all four days and after the first three rounds, Palmer is leading by a single stroke over five players tied for second (Hogan, Venturi, Finsterwald, Boros and Casper). On the final day, Venturi and Finsterwald are paired and duel in a stirring round. They are tied through 17, but Finsterwald’s bogey on 18 drops him one behind Venturi, who walks off the course leading with a 5-under 283. Meanwhile Palmer is about an hour behind paired with Billy Casper. Watch them on 16, 17 and 18 as the pressure builds! Palmer is one back going to 17, but his electrifying 35-foot birdie putt vaults him into a tie with Venturi, now resting in the clubhouse. Arnie’s approach on 18 is shown, which lands only about 6 feet from the flag! His putt for a birdie on 18 wins the tournament! Palmer comes from one back, and birdies the final two holes to win his second Masters! The presentation ceremony on the putting green is covered, with Palmer in his green jacket happily accepting a gold medal and plaque from 1959 winner Art Wall.
