Personnel concerned should carefully review the contents of this Manual in order to render prompt efficient service. File one copy of this Manual in the Pool Table Section of the Department 60 Section of the Ser- vice Reference Rack, MONTGOMERY WARD CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ----------- 3 ----------- Professional pool tables weighing up to 2,000 lbs. and costing up to $2,000 use slate for the table beds. This inorganic material is not affected by atmospheric conditions such as heat and moisture. Home pool tables can not use slate because of weight and cost considerations. LEVELNESS Every table has customer instructions for setting up and leveling these tables and the customer is expected to perform this operation. THE BED The "Bed'" or playing surface of Hawthorne Pool Tables, Models 5031, 5032, are made of a special high-density particle board designed to be warp resistant. Models 5066, 5068, have an extra thick, high-density particle board that is highly warp resistant due to its slate- impregnated finish that seals out moisture,. called "SLATE-TEX". Models 5069, 5098, 5099, are built with beds of what we believe to be the absolute finest man-made material for this purpose known as "SLA-CO". This material is totally warp proof and chip proof. LOOSE CLOTH Occasionally, the cloth may stretch and wrinkle due to absorbing moisture. This can be re- medied by running a hot iron over the cloth to restore its original tautness. LOOSE POCKET LINERS This should be considered an ordinary and expected problem throughout the life of the poòl table and can be easily reattached with staples or small round head nails. SELECTING PERMANENT LOCATION FOR POOL TABLES When selecting the permanent playing area keep these important items in mind: 1. Allow enough room around table for complete freedom when playing. Table should not be ----------- 4 ----------- LATION placed too close to permanent obstacles. Keep in mind the required room for back swing of cue sticks. Allow a minimum space of 3 feet. 2.
