Description: Up for sale, a 1965 Harmony H78 in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A stunningly clean example of the H78 model, this guitar was at the top of Harmony’s line, featuring a trio of DeArmond gold foil pickups, a lightly figured curly maple body, nitrate tortoise appointments, and a gloss Red Sunburst nitro lacquer finish. The fully hollow thinline maple body yields both the immediate attack of the maple and the warmth and fullness of the hollow construction, and this H78 weighs 7lbs 2oz. The DeArmond gold foil pickups have a percussive snap and twang, tight bass, and a harmonically-rich midrange which sounds great when each pickup is singled out or when paired together in any one of seven combinations. Unlike many gold foils, the ones on the H78 also feature adjustable pole pieces to further dial in the balance between the strings. This H78 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. Neck Specs: -Wood: Maple -Shape: “Baseball bat” C, measuring 1.005” 1st fret, 1.025” 12th fret -Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, block inlays, multi-ply binding -Frets: Slender, faint wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 -Scale Length: 24 1/4” -Nut: 1 3/4”, nylon -Headstock: Nitrate tortoise overlay and truss rod cover -Tuners: Waverly, open-gear Body Specs: -Wood: Curly maple -Pickups: DeArmond gold foil x3, “May 7, 1965” date stamps on baseplates -Controls: Volume x3, Tone x3, Pickup on/off x3 -Hardware: Brazilian rosewood bridge, Bigsby B3 vibrato -Plastics: Nitrate tortoise pickguard, switch plate, DeArmond bell knobs, baton switch tips -Serialization: 1965 date stamp and gold foil label visible through F hole The gloss Red Sunburst (catalog: Warm Cherry Red) nitro lacquer finish is framed by multi-ply binding, positively gleaming in its presentation, with near-mint hardware and virtually unaged transparent DeArmond knobs. There's very light cable worming on the back of the cutaways and on the lower bout, and a few light finish scratches as well. And while the model label in the F hole notes the H77 model (trapeze tailpiece instead of Bigsby), rest assured the Bigsby is original to the guitar and this instrument left the factory as a Bigsby-equipped H78. The original (and very rare) two-tone gray/blonde tolex hardshell case with blue plush interior is included. Set apart from the chipboard cases typically seen across Harmony's line, the hardshell variety was produced in much smaller quantities.
