Description: 1965 Vintage Wire Photo by ASSOCIATED PRESS. Astronaut and aquanaut Scott Carpenter, left, checks experiment schedule with fellow diver WH Eaton prior to their scheduled descent today or tomorrow with 8 others to Sealab 2 off La Jolla, California. Carpenter plans to stay 30 days at a depth of 205 feet and the others will remain 15 days in the first of 3 phases of the United States Navy 45-day Man-In-The-Sea project. It is the biggest underwater test of man beneath the sea in American history. Malcolm Scott Carpenter was an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, astronaut, and aquanaut. He was one of the Mercury Seven astronauts selected for NASA's Project Mercury in April 1959. SEALAB I, II, and III were experimental underwater habitats developed by the United States Navy in the 1960s to prove the viability of saturation diving and humans living in isolation for extended periods of time. Photo measures approximately: 7.75 x 4.25 Inches. THERE ARE A FEW MINOR CREASE MARKINGS.Part number: AAA19818 ALL items are more than likely going to have condition wear (small creases, corner wear, etc...) due to age and touching. These photos were meant to be handled and were by the newspapers and other media outlets before we purchased them.

THERE ARE SMALL SMUDGES THAT SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE REMOVED.SOMETIMES THE MARKINGS ON THE BACK CAN BE SEEN THROUGH ON THE FRONT.IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE THICKNESS OF THE PHOTO.
