Description: This is a 1973 Roberto Clemente sports trading card. It is a great addition to any baseball card collection, especially for fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It is a must-have for any serious collector. A 15-time All-Star who helped lead the Pirates to 2 World Series Championships, Roberto finished his legendary career with a .317 average and 3,000 hits, which he picked up in his last at bat on October 3, 1972. Tragically, Roberto died on December 31, 1972 in a small plane crash while he was en route to deliver aid to victims of the Nicaraguan Earthquake. He was 38. A Puerto-Rican, he was the first player from the Caribbean and Latin America to be inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame. The Commissioner's Award, given to the player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team" is named in his honor.
