Description: This 1976 Mossman Flint Hills Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar is a rare gem for any guitar enthusiast. Hand crafted in the United States. The Flint Hills is perhaps the most well-known model of the Mossman guitars, featuring a Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood Back and Sides, Ebony Fingerboard and Bridge, Grover Rotomatic tuners, 25 3/4″ inch scale length, and Mossman’s own proprietary bracing. Its beautiful grainy spruce top has Mossman’s signature tortoise’gard and is surrounded by lovely Herringbone trim with a matching Rosette. It has a 1-piece mahogany neck with beautiful unbound ebony fingerboard. The guitars were made to take medium-gauge strings, and all had the same distinctively-shaped tortoise pickguard. The neck measures 1 11/16″ at the nut and is rather thin in profile, providing fast fretwork and ease of picking, but does have an adjustable truss rod accessible through the sound hole. Mossman used a radical (for the time) bolt-on neck arrangement with a mortise-and-tenon joint which was bolted and glued to the neck. A cover on the neck block hides the bolt ends. Final neck size and shape was achieved because the man at the factory who carved the necks was a banjo player and he liked the feel and playability of lower-profile necks! The original 70’s Mossman dreadnoughts are very well built, with attention to detail, and craftsmanship unsurpassed in this period. One of the hallmarks of the Mossman guitar is that each instrument has a paper label inside, with the serial number that included the year date and model. (This Guitar’s Serial number is:76-3687) and the label was always signed or initialed by the craftsmen building that guitar (this one includes Stu Mossman’s initials: SLM). From My Collection in Excellent Condition. The original satin lacquer finish which was buffed at the factory to a gloss has some cracking on the Sitka Spruce sound board (See the pictures). It appears to be topical only and does not affect the sound or playability. Otherwise, some tiny scratches from handling by the previous (original) owner. There is no belt rash on the back or pick/fingernail scratches on the sound board. The sound board is solid and has no cracks. Original finish. The Flint Hills model was made for medium strings. This guitar was purchased from the 1st owner (who purchased it new) and they only attempted to play it a few times. Since then it has been in a temperature/ humidity controlled environment. It has been in my possession for many years. I have only played it 3 times. It comes with a nice hard case seen in the pictures. This guitar is perfect for acoustic performances and is ideal for musicians who want a high-quality instrument or collectors improving their collection. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own this exceptional piece of music history.
