A precursor to the Elite series Fender basses and only produced from 1980-82, the Precision Special was Fender's first bass with active electronics and is unique both visually and sonically. Features include a Candy Apple Red gloss finish with matching headstock, gold-plated hardware, and a "Brassmaster" bridge designed to increase sustain and articulation. Tonewoods include an alder body and a one-piece maple neck, and at 10lbs 12oz, this bass dishes out plenty of natural punch and resonance. The gray bobbin split-coil pickup yields ample low end thump and smooth top end detail, and the active Bass and Treble EQ controls provide notable tonal sculpting flexibility. This Precision Special Bass had been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation. There is light case rash central to the back, some finish chips largely on the body perimeter, and very minor buckle worming on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with some palm wear on the shoulders, one chip on the bass-side shoulder at fret 5, and a handful of additional shallow marks. The original molded hardshell case is included.
