He played major league baseball from 1990 to 2003 as rightfielder, 1st baseman and pinch hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Montreal Expos and the Houston Astros.
