This set contains the New 1998 Henshin Cyborg action figure, for a reboot line of this action figure, that was first made in 1972 with 4 color variants. This variant has the new yellow color plus the "B" arm attachmentsThis action figure is in mint condition and the box is excellent with minor shelf wear and a small lithopaper tear on the back at the bar code (shown in photo). The box is sealed on both ends and the figure has not been played-with.The 1998 line has about eight color variants: The original 4 metallic colors: gold, silver, blue, and gray, plus additional colors of: red, copper, stealth clear/transparent, and this yellow color. This yellow version was initially used in 1997 for Takara's GaoGaiGar, King of Braves, deluxe Henshin set.The last photo is for reference only and it shows the original Henshin Cyborg of 1972 (Not Included) in both the Gold and the Blue versions surrounding this Henshin Cyborg in the 1998 standard box, Included.Henshin Cyborg History:Takara got the rights for GI Joe in 1970 and made their Combat Joe with Hasbro's classic GI Joe body but made their own heads and gave them a different face than Hasbro's. They continued to make Combat Joe through the 1980s.From 1972 to 1974 they used the classic GI Joe body molds to make the Henshin Cyborg line, of which the human like figures were stamped both Takara and Hasbro. They gave these cyborgs different hands than GI Joe, that would fit into the gloves that all of the outfits came with. Although made from GI Joe's body molds this line was aligned thematically just like Ideal's Captain Action line that was sold in Japan a few years earlier. The Henshin Cyborg matched Captain Action, the boy cyborg (Shonen Cyborg) matched Action Boy, and The Henshin Jaguar matched Khem the Panther. Unlike Khem, the Henshin Jaguar is a jointed action figure like the other Henshin figures, with outfit and accessory sets sold separately. There also was a villain figure called King Walder that was in place of Doctor Evil. All four of these Henshin Cyborg figures had multiple color variants and multiple outfit sets and accessory packs. The Henshin Cyborg also had deluxe and standard versions of many outfits, but all the figures came in standard window boxes with no outfit. Just as Captain Action and Action Boy could transform into many American Superheroes, Henshin Cyborg, who's name translates to Transformational Cyborg, could transform into many Japanese Superheroes, including Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Great Mazinger, and many others. In 1975 they switched the line to Android A vs Alien Invaders, with some slight variants of each. In this new line, the Android A saw all new body design features and the Alien Invaders kept the Hasbro Pelvis and upper legs but had new alien head, lower legs, feet, hands and a new chest/torso. In 1997 Takara did a reboot of Henshin Cyborg. The new figure had an all-new upper body, a similar head piece to the original and a lower body similar to Android A. They brought back variants of the Alien Invaders with their three original colors but much cheaper bodies. They also used these new alien bodies and made three figures with reboots of King Walder's original three transformational disguises. They did a reboot of Shonen Cyborg which was much like the original and King Walder was reduced to the 9 inch size of Shonen Cyborg but was similar to the original in body type, just smaller, like the line of these toys sold in England by Deny's Fisher. Thank you for viewing my auction and happy bidding!
