Description: This handsome Folk Art bookend comes from a July, 2023 Maine auction of the contents of the Jabez Knowlton General Store in Newburgh, Maine. It was built in 1839, closed in 1910 and remained in a state of fully-stocked preservation since then. The bookstand's age and style, folding flat for travel, indicate that this was probably made for traveling or for a military officer's use in the field during the Civil War. An unusual feature is that it's made without a folding hinge and instead, the sides pivot on round-head screws. This in excellent, original condition with no wear from use, no damage nor repairs. Closed, this measures approximately 5.5" x 12". Weighs 10 oz. This is shown with standard DVDs to give an indication of size. The DVDs are not included.
