Description: From an online bio: "Charles Erdman (1866-1960) was was born in Fayetteville, New York. He was the son of the Reverend William Jacob Erdman and Henrietta Rosenbury. His father was a Presbyterian minister and participant in the Bible Conference movement... ... Charles Erdman started his career as a Schoolteacher in Germantown, which is now a part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later he became an Ordained Presbyterian Minister in 1891 and was a Pastor at Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pensylvania, from 1891 to 1897, and at the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Pensylvania, from 1897 to 1905. In 1906 Erdman accepted the newly created Chair of Practical Theology at the Princeton Theological Seminary. He worked on his post until 1936... ... During his life, Erdman preached over ten thousand sermons. He also produced thirty-five books, most of which were expositions of books of the Bible; like his sermons, they were clear and flowing essays written in a loving spirit and designed to both edify and instruct. Many of his New Testament works were translated into other languages." THIS LISTING CONTAINS TWO BOOKS BY CHARLES R. ERDMAN, BOTH OF WHICH ARE FIRST EDITIONS AND BOTH OF WHICH ARE SIGNED BY CHARLES R. ERDMAN. They are similarly described. They were published by The Westminster Press of Philadelphia. I assume they are First Editions as the date on the title page matches the date on the copyright page. They both have green cloth boards with light to moderate corner and edge wear, with gilt spine and front board titling. Both were inscribed and signed by Charles Erdman on the first free endpaper. The two books, with other details, are: 1928, The First Epistle of Paul in the Corinthians : An Exposition. In this book, the spine gilt tilting is fully rubbed. The inscription is generic, Your sincere friend.., and then signed. There is a library stamp, "James Tait Library", in two locations: on the first free endpaper, and on the title page. No further marks in 158 clean and solidly bound pages. 1936, The Revelation of John : An Exposition. This book is in better condition than the other one. There is lighter board edge and corner wear, with clear gilt spine titling. There is no library stamp. The inscription is more personal in this book - Gene Tate with the compliments of her sincere friend.., and then signed. No further marks in 168 clean and solidly bound pages. B77
