Description: DESCRIPTION OF ITEM: The Red Dragon Rainbow Fish, scientifically known as *Melanotaenia lacustris*, is a vibrant and visually striking species of freshwater fish native to Papua New Guinea. It is part of the rainbowfish family and is highly sought after by aquarists for its dazzling colors and peaceful nature. Characteristics: - **Appearance**: The Red Dragon Rainbow Fish displays a stunning coloration, featuring bright red or orange bodies with iridescent blue and green highlights. The fins may also exhibit a range of vivid colors, making these fish very attractive in aquariums. - **Size**: They typically grow to about 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10 cm) in length, depending on the specific strain and environmental conditions. - **Temperament**: These fish are generally peaceful and social, making them suitable for community tanks. They do well in groups and should ideally be kept in schools of at least six to eight individuals to promote a natural behavior and minimize stress. - **Care**: Red Dragon Rainbow Fish require well-oxygenated and clean water. Recommended water conditions include a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C) and a pH level between 6.5 to 7.5. - **Diet**: They are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet that includes high-quality flake foods, pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia, and plant matter. Breeding: Breeding Red Dragon Rainbow Fish is possible in captivity, and they are egg scatterers. When breeding, it’s best to provide a separate breeding tank with spawning mops or fine-leaved plants where the females can lay their eggs. After spawning, parents should be removed to prevent them from eating the eggs. Aquarium Setup: In terms of tank setup, a well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas is ideal for Red Dragon Rainbow Fish. Providing floating plants can also diffuse light and create a more natural-looking environment. Overall, the Red Dragon Rainbow Fish is an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists who appreciate colorful and active fish that enhance the beauty of community aquariums. ACCLIMATION: (very important)-It is important to acclimate the fish due to water parameters being different FLOAT METHOD-Float the sealed bag in the aquarium for 15 minutes. This will allow the temperature in bag to gradually adjust to the aquarium temperature. Open the bag and roll down the top edge of bag to create an air pocket. This will allow the bag to float on the water's surface.Add a small amount of water (1-2 oz) from the aquarium into bag every 5 minutes for about 20 minutesafter 25 minutes, carefully net the fish and introduce into the aquariumgoal here is to gradually introduce the fish to new water parameters with as minimal stress as possible. If still unsure with the acclimation process, please look up online for further instruction
